The Venture Patrol recently completed a bike trip to Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The map below shows the entire bike route (in dark red).

The trip began at point A, Shawme-Crowell State Park. The first day ended at Nickerson State Park, point B. The second day took the Ventures to a camp ground in North Truro, point C. The next day, some of the boys made the round trip into Provincetown point D, before heading back to camp.

Be sure to see the pictures in the Photo Gallery.

Some observations from the scouts:

"The trip first venture under new leadership, and with the help of Pete and Fran's "state of the art" plan, was a great success. It had a few small incidents, but with our extensive training and knowledge of the bikes, they were all fixed quickly and with little or no charge to us at all. (Thank you to all the Cape Cod area bike shops for your help!) Both days of biking were gifts from heaven, with temperatures in the mid 80's and sunny, with a light breeze: the epitomy of days to go biking. The trail was for the most part very well marked out, and easy to ride on, and all of the boys agreed that it was fun. The adults did an excellent job keeping up with us youngin's, even on those hills on Saturday. Camping went smoothly both nights, with the exception of the rain Saturday night into Sunday morning, which made packing up a soggy experience. Not everyone finished the entire trip out to Provincetown, but to those of you who did, excellent work, and congratulations! This was a small step in terms of ventures, but a huge leap for our program. Thank you to all the adults who participated, and to everyone who made it possible!"

"This bike trip to Cape Cod was a fun learning experience. Through all of the planning and training it took to get all of the bikes and people through the 100 miles of cape cod we learned that all of the planning and training beforehand was necessary. Over all this learning trip was beautiful. The weather being sunny and dry for most of the trip. People in cape cod are almost like family with how friendly they were. The camp sites we stayed at were beautiful and unique. I think our best idea was the chase vehicle, it was always there to help transport us to the nearest bike or auto body shop when you needed to weld a handle bar back on to a bike or get a new tire for a blown one. Having a first aid kit was a very good thing along with cell phones. I will look forward to our next trip and hope to see no one crash."

"The weekend of June 21st through the 23rd, the Troop 349 venture group went to Cape Cod, Massachusetts. We started out at Shawmee-Crowell state park in the Sandwich area. The first day we biked approx. 40-45 miles to Nickerson State Park. We then spent Friday night there, and left at about 11:00 the next morning. The second day we biked about 35 to a campground in Truro. The next morning a choice few decided to finish the trip to Provincetown in the rain, while the rest of us stayed and broke down the campsite. We left North of Highland Camping Area around noon and drove about five hours home to Maine. Overall, it was a fun trip!"
